1. Introduction

Redgate VPN ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Redgate VPN mobile application and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.

By using Redgate VPN, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you register or log in, we may collect:

• Email address (if you choose to register with email)
• A randomly generated device identifier (UUID stored securely on your device)
• Subscription or purchase status (processed through Google Play or Apple App Store)

2.2 Connection Data

To provide and improve our VPN service, we collect aggregated, non-identifiable usage data:

• Total data transferred (bytes) per session — used for service optimization, never linked to your identity
• Connection timestamps (start/end time) — retained for up to 30 days for troubleshooting
• VPN server selected — to improve server load balancing

We do not log your browsing history, DNS queries, destination IP addresses, or the content of your traffic.

2.3 Device Information

We may collect limited technical information to ensure compatibility and security:

• Operating system type and version (Android / iOS / macOS / Windows)
• App version
• Network type (Wi-Fi or cellular) — not the network content

3. Location Data

3.1 Location Data We Access and Collect

If you grant location permission, Redgate VPN may access and collect your device's approximate location and/or precise location. Depending on your device settings and the location available from the operating system, this may include:

• Latitude and longitude coordinates
• Location accuracy and location source
• Derived country, region, city, or other administrative area
• The time the location was captured and received
• Location permission, consent, and automatic-server-selection status
• A pseudonymous account or guest identifier, device identifier, app version, and platform needed to associate the report with your connection

3.2 When Location Is Accessed

When location permission has been granted, the app may access and transmit location data at the following times:

• When the app is opened: to prepare location-aware VPN access-point selection and connection optimization.
• While a VPN connection is active: location may be refreshed approximately once per hour, including while the app is in the background, so the Service can continue optimizing the VPN access point. Actual timing may vary because of operating-system scheduling.
• After the VPN disconnects: the periodic background location refresh stops. Location may be accessed again the next time you open the app if permission remains granted.

3.3 Why We Use Location

We use location data solely to:

• Automatically select a suitable or nearby VPN access point when automatic selection is enabled
• Optimize regional routing, connection reliability, and access-point load balancing
• Troubleshoot location-based server selection and improve connection performance

We do not use location data for advertising, ad targeting, marketing profiles, or measuring advertising performance.

3.4 Your Choice and Permission Controls

Location permission is optional. You may deny the request or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. If you deny or revoke permission, you can continue to use the core VPN service and manually select a server, but automatic or optimized access-point selection may be unavailable or less accurate.

The in-app automatic-selection switch controls whether location is used to choose a VPN access point. The operating-system location permission controls whether the app can access location at all. To stop the app from accessing location, revoke the location permission in your device settings.

3.5 Transmission, Sharing, Storage, and Retention

Location reports are transmitted to our servers using encrypted network connections. We store location event records and the latest reported device location with the pseudonymous account or guest identifier needed to operate and troubleshoot the feature.

We do not sell location data and do not share it with advertisers or advertising networks. Location data may be processed by infrastructure or hosting providers acting on our behalf, subject to appropriate confidentiality and security obligations, or disclosed when required by law.

We retain identifiable location records only for as long as they are reasonably needed to provide and optimize the Service, troubleshoot the feature, maintain security, or comply with legal obligations. In the current Service, these records are retained until you request deletion or until we determine that they are no longer required for those purposes. After that, they are deleted or de-identified. Aggregated or de-identified statistics that can no longer reasonably identify you may be retained for longer.

You may request deletion of location records associated with your account or guest identifier through our Support page.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the VPN service
• Select or optimize VPN access points when location permission is granted
• Authenticate your account and verify subscription status
• Send important service notifications (e.g., expiration reminders)
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
• Respond to customer support inquiries
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Payment processors: Google Play / Apple App Store handle all payment transactions. We do not receive your full payment card details.
• Analytics: We may use aggregated, anonymous analytics to understand overall app usage patterns.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include:

• AES-128 encryption for API communications between the app and our servers
• HTTPS/TLS for all server connections
• Limited employee access to production systems

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Connection metadata (timestamps, bytes transferred) is retained for up to 30 days. Location data is retained as described in Section 3.5 and is not included in the 30-day connection-metadata period. You may request deletion of your account and associated location data by contacting our support team.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of certain data processing activities
• Deny or revoke location permission through your device settings

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
